Service and Education Ministries
St. Ambrose is our sharing parish. Financial support is generated through monthly collections. Food and gift donations are sent at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Haiti Outreach to the parishioners of St. Jean Baptiste, in Sassier, Haiti.
Sri Lanka Outreach supporting “The Butterfly Garden” a ministry to children traumatized by the ongoing war. It is the ministry of Father Paul, a Jesuit, who served at Sacred Heart in the 70’s.
Ministry of Care : Involves bringing Communion to the sick in their homes and to two nursing homes in the area. Training is required.
Elizabeth Ministry: Outreach to women involving all child related issues, including new births, premature births, miscarriages, infant loss, child illness, adoption and infertility. Includes spiritual and practical support.
Newcomers: Welcomed at all parish events and in all organizations. Newcomers are encouraged to call the Parish Center for information on groups in which they are interested.
Religious Education Board
Advisory board to the Director of Religious Education and Pastor. Supports all aspects of the Religious Education Program.
Special Religious Education
A program for developmentally disabled young adults. Meets one Sunday per month September through June.
Youth Ministry (Ignition)
Ignition strives to involve the high school students in the life of the parish. Towards this goal, the youth group meets regularly on Sunday evenings to learn and grow in faith and to discuss issues that are important to young Catholics. In addition, several service projects are organized throughout the year for the teens of the parish, including a trip to Appalachia in the summer.
RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
An 8 month program for those interested in learning more about the Catholic faith or becoming Catholic. Meets once a week, September through Easter. Click here to register.
Small Faith Groups
Groups of parishioners meet for 6 weeks twice a year, Advent and Lent, to reflect on the Sunday scriptures.
Retreats
Announced in the bulletin The Tower. Family: February — Men’s Retreat: November — Annual Parish Mission during Lent.
Prayer Group
Meets Wednesdays, 9:00 AM in the Parish Center.
Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheart-winnetka.org)
The parish school serves 4 year olds in the pre-kindergarten as well as students in kindergarten through grade 8. The students are part of a challenging learning community. The core curriculum encompasses religion, language arts, math, science and social studies as well as music, art, P.E. and computers. The school environment encourages growth in Christian values and Catholic teachings. Through the school liturgies the students celebrate their faith. The teachers, aides and staff are qualified and dedicated to the love of teaching. The school board and the PTO encourage and welcome parental involvement. Our school community has a big heart. Sacred Heart School Board
Advisory board to the Principal and Pastor. Supports all aspects of the school.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
A volunteer organization dedicated to the enhancement of the educational and social experiences of the students, to the establishment of community and goodwill, and to the fundraising to support these causes.
Religious Education (www.shre.org)
The parish Religious Education Program provides religious formation to all children who attend public school: pre-school, kindergarten and grades one through eight. It also offers assistance to those who minister in other areas of the parish. Sacramental preparation and celebration of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation for all children of the parish are an important part of this program. Classes meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, September through May. This program is administered under the guidelines and policies of the Archdiocese.
Soup Kitchen: Once a month on the third Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Good News Community Soup Kitchen, 7649 N. Paulina, Chicago. Help needed to cook (recipe provided) and serve.
Glencoe Interfaith Builders: A cooperative effort of Religious Congregations in Glencoe to build homes in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity.
Adult Education Ministry: Steering team that creates and implements adult educational opportunities for parishioners.
Sacred Heart Bible Study: In-depth study of various books of the Bible, September through May.
Theology on Tap: Summer theology program for young adults, in collaboration with a cluster of North Shore parishes and the Archdiocese of Chicago.
NiteLites: A major fundraising social event held in the spring to benefit Sacred Heart Church and School Community.
Advent by Candlelight : Evening of spiritual reflection upon the season of Advent for women of the parish and their friends.
Baptismal Prep: One session held the 4th Sunday of each month, 9:15 to 10:15 AM. For parents expecting babies to be baptized at Sacred Heart.
Marriage Prep: Private consultations between engaged couple and Priest or Deacon.
Family Life Ministry: Plans and implements social events for families with young and school-aged children.
